Patrick Cassio, Rahway Republican Chairman, a member of the Rahway Knights of Columbus, a small business owner, and a volunteer
in the Rahway community at large, has been a Rahway native since his birth in 1965. He grew up in a traditional middle class
family. His parents moved to Rahway from Elizabeth in 1954. His father Dominick Cassio, a decorated WWII veteran, always stressed
giving back to the country, while his mother, Mary A. Cassio focused on instilling good Christian values in Patrick and his two
siblings. His older brother, Michael, first started out as a volunteer for the Rahway police and in 1973 officially joined the
U.S. Air force as a Military Policeman in 1973. Unfortunately, after 11 years of honorable service Mike was killed in a tragic
training accident. Many in the city of Rahway were shocked at Michael's death; he was well liked in the community. Six months
later, heart disease took Patrick's father as well. Now, being only 18 years old and freshly starting out in the carpenter trade,
Patrick had to leave school early in order to help out with the household expenses. Once times smoothed out, he enrolled in night
classes and finished his high school degree with a GED diploma.
For the next 20 years, Patrick trained in an apprenticeship and developed his carpenter career while also caring for his remaining
family members. Mary Cassio, his mother, suffered from poor health for many years as well as his sister, Rose. It was during these
times that Patrick developed the leadership qualities which eventually lead him to get involved with the city.
In 1991, his first venture into city affairs, Cassio led the effort to stop heavy trucks from coming onto Barnett St. It was a
success and now the members of his neighborhood began to look to him for help on a wide range of issues. Patrick started going
to city council meetings when eminent domain was being abused by the city. Bells drug store and the Chen building are two
examples of many that Patrick led protective efforts for. As the years went by he began to study city government and learn more
about its inner-workings. He relentlessly went over budgets, documents, ordnances, and resolutions. He became a regular face at
City Council meetings, asking questions and speaking up for the tax payers of Rahway in regards to high sewer bills, out of
control spending, and sweetheart deals for developers.
Some of his recent achievements: In 2007, Cassio prevented the sale and demolition of the City Hall building, while also help
expose a double dipping pension scam to the Rahway people. In 2008-09 he uncovered and then informed the public about sewer
and water overcharging that was occurring. And in 2010 he exposed a $90,000 piano deal that was in the works.
Patrick Cassio, a lifelong parishioner at St. Mary's R.C. Church, feels that the Democrat machine running Rahway has gone
too far and commits to bring this recklessness to an end, replacing it with a responsible, dependable Republican office that
works for nobody other than the people of Rahway. Mr. Cassio thinks Rahway is a great community has many opportunities to
offer, but government should be promoting those opportunities by allowing more free enterprise in our city thru OPEN government.
Too many hand picked people are given the inside track on success, while others are hand cuffed with government red tape. One
of the democrats running, Mr. Proctor is part of the administration that enforces too many regulations on home owners and businesses
in Rahway. The other candidate on the democrat side also worked at one time on the city payroll and supported many of the expensive
programs that are bankrupting our city. We cannot continue borrowing and spending without accountability. That is not HONEST
government.
Rahway deserves better. Patrick Cassio is ready to provide the strong leadership Rahway needs to make our city a great community
but ACCOUNTABLE once again.
RAHWAY SHOULD HAVE: HONEST, ACCOUNTABLE, and OPEN CITY GOVERNMENT
